WATERCOLOR

Watercolor is my preferred medium for capturing luminous light and the beauty of the New Mexico landscape. It's lightweight and easy to carry, so I paint both outdoors and in the studio.

ABIQUIU, NEW MEXICO

Once a month, you'll find me teaching watercolor workshops at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM. I take students on field trips to my favorite painting locations in the area. Many of these paintings were created during those excursions. Each return offers new light, new weather, and another opportunity to observe a landscape that never feels the same twice..

    WILD PRICKLY PEAR

I have a particular affinity for this wonderfully resilient cactus! To me, the Prickly Pear is the guardian of the desert and I paint them with joy and reverence. By lowering the horizon and looking upward, these paintings shift the cactus from a small desert detail into a monumental presence.

      INTERIORS

My interior paitnings are often mixed-media, exploring the dialogue between observation and invention. Everyday objects, remembered places, and organic forms become opportunities for experimentation. Open books on Matisse, O'Keeffe, the Surrealists, and the Transcendentalists are scattered across the studio floor, their ideas finding their way into the work.

        FUNKY LANDSCAPES

What begins outside gives way to memory, intuition, and play. Funky Landscapes move beyond direct observation, inviting color and curiosity to take ! Here you'll find erupting volcanoes, radiant clouds, and wildly colorful foregrounds.

          ALBUQUERQUE

Albuquerque is my home. I recognize that Albuquerque stands on the traditional, unceded homelands of the Pueblos of Sandia and Isleta and the Tiwa-speaking Peoples, and that I am a visitor in this place. Remembering that I am not the first to know this landscape encourages me to look more slowly, with humility and gratitude.

I orient myself by the landscape: the Sandia Mountains to the east, the volcanoes and distant Mount Taylor to the west, and the hazy outline of the Sierra Ladrones to the south. Flowing through the center of the valley is the Rio Grande, bordered by the cottonwood bosque that follows its banks. These are the landscapes I return to again and again, and the places I paint.
